:a small surviving group often used in plural
:an unsold or unused end of piece goods
ebster's definition can easily be applied to the Bible. Over the centuries, Christianity has come to be nothing like what it was in New Testament times. Traditions have crept into the church. Men have erroneously interpreted the Bible in many ways. The best question to ask is what church would Jesus join if He were here in person today?
Our parents and grandparents would be familiar with an old-fashioned dry goods store. They would see cloth to make clothes wrapped around a spool and buy it by the yard. Clothes would be made by a tailor or homemade. If the measurement wasn't quite right, or the clothing was damaged, more would be bought from the dry goods store. Occasionally the store would have a remnant sale. Bits that were left on the bolt would be sold to get ready for new inventory. Yard goods bought to repaor clothes made earlier would be taken to the store and compared to the remnant to make sure it WAS LIKE THE ORIGINAL. MATERIAL. The remnant material was used as a guide to buy more material. The same can be applied today to doctrine in the churches ouf our generation.
Nothing written here is meant to condemn God-fearing people who are sincerely ignorant of such things. But, there is a power on earth with leadership who desire to have your worship! These same people will use tradition to keep the counterfeits alive. And what did Jesus say about tradition? See Mark 7:7.
Revelation 14:12 "And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus".
Any discussion of the remnant in the last days needs to include the previous verse- patience of the saints, keep the commandments, and have the faith that Jesus had.
In Daniel Chapter 2, the prophet Daniel described four world kingdoms reaching down to the second coming of Christ. He further describes a power that seeks to change times and laws in Daniel 7. Revelation 13 identifies the worldwide beast power as the Roman Catholic Church. Another group is described in Revelation 12:17.
The same group is also described in Rev 14:12.
s humans, we have a tendency to get very provincial. My church is better than your church, etc. The important thing is to ask the Holy Spirit to guide us, and follow the Holy Spirit. See John 4:24.
s God particular about what we believe? Most emphatically, yes.
Proverbs 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Paul's wish in Ephesians was for a glorious church in Ephesians 5:27.
aul said that the mystery of iniquity was already working in his time. He also said that a strong delusion would be believed by many. See 2 Thessalonians 2:7-12.
Almost all of the prophecies in the Bible have come to pass. We have seen from this limited study that the Bible does clarify itself. Now, what is a remnant? Not too long ago, if you had a bolt of cloth and ran out of cloth, you would go to the store with a little piece of the original. You would compare the little piece with the rolls of cloth in the store and examine the color, weave, and texture until you found the exact copy. Well, there are many bolts of cloth in the religious world today. The remnant is simply that group of believers which has the beliefs that most closely resemble the beliefs of the early church.
No Christian should be comfortable letting another person establish doctrine for them. If a person can read, then that person should read for him or herself. If not, there is radio and there are audio tapes available in most parts of the world. It is good to remember the words in Psalms 146:3-4. Everyone is saved by grace. Everyone is subject to making mistakes. We need to go to the Bible to find out if the preacher, pastor, reverend, or priest is telling us the truth, not go to them to interpret Scripture for us. Jesus kept the Sabbath. See Luke 4:15-16. But, tradition alone has caused what the Bible calls vain worship. See Mark 7:7.
It is not a matter of old covenant versus new. It is the everlasting gospel. See Revelation 14:6.
It is not a matter of the sabbath being a Jewish institution because anyone who is baptized is a spiritual Jew. See Romans 2:28-29.
This angel, too, has a warning for this generation. Babylon is fallen. Babylon, meaning confusion, has caused most modern churches to lose their influence and just end up folowing after the beast power - the Roman church. The church is supposed to be the bride of Christ. The remnant church is. Churches which follow after the beast are not. They have committed spiritual fornication (or adultery). See Revelation 14:8. There is also a warning againsgt spiritual fornication. See Revelation 18:1-4. There has always been a true system of worship and a false system. One can look as far back as Cain and Abel to understand this. When Abel brought the sacrifices as the Lord commanded and Cain brought the fruits of his own labor, the controversy was evident. The images below summarize the two belief systems. Each line in these images is linked to a site with a more detailed explanation.

Food for Thought
The true ground of divine worship, not of that on the seventh day merely, but of all worship, is found in the distinction between the Creator and his creatures. This great fact can never become obsolete, and must never be forgotten.Ē It was to keep this truth ever before the minds of men, that God instituted the Sabbath in Eden; and so long as the fact that he is our Creator continues to be a reason why we should worship him, so long the Sabbath will continue as its sign and memorial.
